WHAT IS A CELEBRANT?

A person who is trained and certified to meet the needs of families during their time of loss. Their job is to provide a funeral service that is personalized to reflect the personality and life-style of a family's loved one.

A celebrant will incorporate those unique stories, songs and experiences of a family's loved one into the service.

WHY HAVE CELEBRANTS?

The Funeral is a valuable source of healing in the lives of a grieving family. The essence of the service is based on the remembrances of the family.

If a song has meaning to the family or the person,
IT SHOULD BE SUNG.

If there are special people who can share meaningful thoughts in the life of the person,
THEY SHOULD BE HEARD.

If a family wants to speak,
THEY SHOULD DO SO EVEN IF THEIR VOICES BREAK AND THEY MUST STOP FOR A CRY.

These are things that make a funeral meaningful.

WHAT DOES A CERTIFIED CELEBRANT OFFER THE FAMILY?

A celebrant offers a personalized service for families either in addition to or in place of a traditional religious service. For those families who may not be active in a church or synagogue a funeral celebrant is trained to conduct a meaningful funeral service or tribute that reflects the deceased's beliefs and lifestyle.

These families are not without faith, they just don't have a church affiliation.

WHERE DOES A FAMILY FIND A CELEBRANT?

Funeral homes are now seeing the need to have someone available, either on staff or on contract, who is qualified to serve families that do not wish to use a clergy person. You may also contact me directly. For more information click here!

WHAT IS THE COST?

The celebrant fee is usually comparable to the fees charged by clergy for performing a funeral. This ranges from $100 to $300 depending on the choices of the family. The celebrant will spend approximately 10 or more hours in preparation for a service, as well as the expenses of training and maintaining a resource library. Funeral Directors who also serve as Celebrants are doing so outside of their role as a Funeral Director and should be compensated for their expertise.
